The University of Houston-Victoria (UHV) RN to BSN program can be completed in as little as one to two semesters for full-time students. The program is delivered entirely online, offering 8-week courses that provide flexibility for working nurses.

Accreditations

The RN to BSN program is accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and approved by the Texas Board of Nursing. Applicants must hold a valid RN license and have an associate degree or diploma in nursing from a regionally accredited institution.

Admission Requirements

A minimum overall GPA of 2.5, with a science GPA of at least 2.0, is required.

Prerequisites include courses in anatomy, microbiology, chemistry, psychology, and statistics.

Curriculum

The program requires 30 upper-division nursing credits, covering topics such as Evidence-Based Practice, Leadership Roles, Population Health, and Ethics in Healthcare. Students also complete a capstone project to synthesize their learning.

NURS 3310 Transition to the BSN Role
This course focuses on the role of the baccalaureate-prepared nurse, exploring professionalism standards and ethical practice. It emphasizes the transition from RN to BSN roles. Credit is not granted for both NURS 3310 and NURS 3210.

NURS 3411 Comprehensive Health Assessment
Students gain skills in conducting detailed health assessments and learn to apply health promotion principles in nursing practice. The course includes both theoretical and hands-on components.

NURS 3315 Foundations of Comprehensive Pathophysiology in Nursing
This course examines common pathological processes and identifies modifiable factors for nursing intervention. It focuses on the foundational understanding of disease processes relevant to clinical practice.

NURS 4110 Capstone Project
This practicum-based capstone integrates theoretical knowledge and clinical practice. Students apply learned concepts to real-world nursing scenarios.

NURS 4310 Global Health Nursing
Students explore global health topics, including population health, primary care, and health policy, with a focus on nursing roles in various geographic regions.

NURS 4311 Healthcare Organizations and Informatics
This course examines the structure of U.S. healthcare delivery systems and the role of informatics in improving care continuity and efficiency.

NURS 4314 Introduction to Evidence-Based Practice
Students are introduced to research principles, emphasizing the integration of evidence-based practices in nursing through writing and scholarly exchange.

NURS 4322 Ethics in Healthcare
This course builds on foundational knowledge of ethical and legal principles, exploring their application in nursing and healthcare delivery.

NURS 4410 Leadership Roles
Focusing on leadership theories, this course combines theoretical and practical experiences to address nursing management and leadership challenges.

NURS 4313 Population Focused Community Health
Students learn about population health concepts, health policy, and the nurse’s role in community health services and advocacy.

Advanced placement credit for up to 36 semester hours is granted for prior ADN coursework and RN licensure.

Assuming 30 credit hours, the tuition for the RN to BSN Program is $9,779.40.
